Obituary ....

Death Claims C.G. Kiehne, 82
Retired Farmer of Gordonville Called.

Charles G. Kiehne, 82 years old, a retired farmer and head of a widely known family of the Gordonville community, died at the family home in Gordonville at 12:30 a.m. today after a lengthy illiness. A stomach ailment was the direct cause of his death.

Mr. Kiehne was born in Grossrueden, Hanover, Germany, on October 5, 1858. A son of Christian Kiehne and Sophia Ahrens Kiehne, he came to the United States when still a small boy. He was reared in Hubble Township, near Gordonville, and on November 13, 1884, was married to Miss Sophia Schlue.

The couple lived for many years on a farm half a mile west of Gordoville. Twenty-five years ago Mr. Kiehne retired from farming and the couple moved to the village, where they had resided since.

Funeral Sunday.

Mr. Kiehne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church near Gordonville, then, upon organization of the Christ Lutheran Church congregation in Gordonville, transferred to that church, and had been an active member of the congregation. He was interested in politics, and for many years was a community leader in the Republican party.

Mr. Kiehne is survived by his widow, four sons, County Supt. of Schools Otto C. Kiehne of Gordonville, Wm. H. Kiehne, Robert C. Kiehne and C. F. Kiehne, all of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Mrs. R. A. Eggimann of Dutchtown, Mrs. L. L. Thompson and Mrs. A. J. Weis of Cape Girardeau; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Wm. H. Kiehne, manager of The Missourian Printing & Stationary Co., is ill and is in Southeast Missouri Hospital for treatment.

The body is at the McCombs Funeral Home at Jackson, and funeral services will be conducted at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. Hugo Hoyer, will be in charge. Burial will be at the cemetery at Gordonville.
