Obituary ....
Philip Hager, one of Cape county's most prominent citizens, died Tuesday afternoon at the St. Francis hospital at Cape Girardeau, at the age of 57 years, 7 months, and 29 days. He was taken to the hospital last Friday from his home in Gordonville, and an operation for rupture was performed.
It was first thought that he stood the operation well, but on Monday he became worse and sank rapidly until the end came Tuesday afternoon.
Philip Hager was born and raised all his life in this county.
He married to Sophie Wilhelmine Siemers on the 6th day of May, 1886, and followed farming for a number of years, wherein he was unusually successful. Several years ago he retired, and purchased a home on Albert Street in Gordonville.
He is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters, Robert, Arthur, Norman and Lawrence Hager, Mrs. Will Gross, and Miss Lillian Hager, all of whom live in Hubble township.
The funeral will be held at Gordonville Friday, internment to be had at Christ Lutheran cemetery.
Mr. Hager was one of the quiet and unobtrusive men, who always attended to his own affairs and rarely mixed in the affairs of others. Although considered wealthy, he never was given to showing off his holdings, but remained the same plain man. |
