DEATH CLAIMS HENRY VOLKERDING.
Henry Volkerding, on of Gordonville's most highly respected citizens, died this morning at an early hour at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 9 days, leaving his wife, four sons, Henry, Herman, Robert and Louis, and two daughters, Mesdames Alvine Luehring and Minnie Wessell, all living in this county. The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 2 p.m., at the Gordonville Lutheran church.
Henry Volkerding was born at Borum, in Germany, December 16, 1846, and came to the United States with his parents in 1848. He lived all his life in Gordonville and vicinity. On July 26, 1872, he was married to Caroline Hennecke, who now survives him.
About 11 years ago he retired from farming and has since resided in Gordonville. Until about nine months ago he was very active for a man of his age. By his death Cape Girardeau county loses one of its best citizens.
