Christian Gross Dies at Gordonville; Last Rites Tuesday
Christian Gross, 80 years old, one of the oldest citizens of Gordonville, died at his home at 5 o'clock Sunday evening. Although suffering from the ailments incident to advanced age for six months, he was bedfast only since last Tuesday.
The body was brought to the Wilson-Statler-Seabaugh Funeral Home, and will be returned to the family home today. Rev. Hugo Hoyer will be in charge of the funeral services, which will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gross was born near Old Appleton September 3, 1861, but came to Gordonville with his parents 19 years later. On December 19, 1888, he was married there to Bertha Poe, who died July 26, 1890, leaving one son, William Gross who died February 15, this year.
On January 21, 1893, he was married to Emma Gehrichs, and she preceded him death, February 18, 1937. He is survived by two sons, Albert Gross, who lives on the home farm near Gordonville and Theo Gross, at home; a daughter, Emma Gross, at home, and six grandchildren.
Mr. Gross was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, and had served as an official of the church. He also had served as a member of the town council and of the board of education. One part of the town of Gordonville is named after him, the Christ Gross addition. |
