Obituary ....

Joe H. Skelton, 75 years old of Gordonville, died at 8:50 Friday night in the Veterans Hospital at Poplar Bluff, where he was a patient eight days.

Mr. Skelton was born November 15, 1886, at Bone Gap, Ill. On April 28, 1920, he was married in New Madrid to the former Miss Pearl Mae Brunner, who survives. For 20 years, Mr. Skelton was employed in the sawmill business by the Waldschmidt Lumber co. Afterward, he was self-employed as a painter, retiring in 1955.

A Gordonville resident 40 years, he was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Gordonville. He received a Purple Heart while serving in France, part of the European Theater in World War I. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns Post 138 of the American Legion at Jackson, and the World War I Barracks in Cape Girardeau.

Surviving are: Mrs. Skelton; three sons, Harold and Charles Skelton, both of Gordonville, and Leo Skelton of Caruthersville; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Naylor Jr. of San Antonio, Tex., and Mrs. Clarence Biri of Gordonville; and 13 grandchildren.

The body is at Ford & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 Monday afternoon in the Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Ludwig will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the funeral home to the church at noon Monday.
