Obituary ....
Funeral service for Hubert M. Devenport, of Gordonville, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville. The Rev. Norman Dierking, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roy Brown, Orville Birk, Claude Estes, Edgar Moll, Albert Kamp, Jr., and Walter Hanschen.
The body is at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Friday.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today. An American Legion Honor Guard Service will be conducted at 8 tonight.
Mr. Devenport, 64 years old, died early Wednesday, May 23, 1984, in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, where he had been a patient for several weeks.
He was born August 16, 1919, at Patton, son of Fred M. and Elva E. Mayfield Devenport.
On April 15, 1945, he was married to Esther L. Sebastian, who survives.
Mr. Devenport served in World War II, and later was employed as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He was a member of the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers Association, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16 in Cape Girardeau, and the American Legion Altenthal-Joerns Post 158, Jackson.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Ronald Devenport, St. Charles; Jerry Devenport, Renton, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Vicki Nelson, Webster Groves, Mrs. Kathryn Rabold, Waynesville, and Mrs. Carolyn Mayfield, Sedgewickville; his mother, Mrs. Elva E. Devenport, Jackson; two brothers, Harold Devenport, Columbia, Ill., and Darrell F. Devenport, Lutesville; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Seabaugh, Torrence, Calif., and Mrs. Iola Newton, Florissant; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Floyd Devenport, who lost his life during World War II, in April 1945. |
